Is Shahrukh being replaced?
After the tremendous success of Kaho Na Pyar
Hai, Hrithik Roshan instantly became the talk of tinsel town.
Every on knew who Hrithik Roshan was. His popularity was so
intense, that it was taken for granted that he was an
established star and not a new comer. Film lovers simply loved
Hrithik...he was a hunk who could act!
Everything was going fine, until from nowhere
news started spreading that Shahrukh Khan was insecure about
Hrithik Roshan. The Media of course didn't spare this rumor
and spread it further. On the internet there were wide scale
battles between the HR & the SK fan community.
Then there was the Pepsi AD in which Shahrukh
poked fun at a Hrithik Look Alike who wears braces. The
Advertisement became a controversy. It was a symbol of the
vendetta between Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan.
But nobody cared for the actual fact -
"The entire Pepsi controversy was blown out of
proportion. I mean, it was ridiculous of the media to assume
that Shah Rukh is insecure about Hrithik. As yet, Hrithik is
only a one film wonder. You can't compare him to an already
established star. In fact, I was surprised at Hrithik's
reaction. I think it was quite silly of him to take the ad
personally. Pepsi and Coke have always had this media war. We
even made a crack at Saurav Ganguly in one of the ads because
he's a Coke model. This happens all the time. But, Hrithik
assumed that the ad was vindictive because he opted to do the
Coke ad instead of Pepsi ad. If that was true, then we would
have made crack at Aamir when he signed a contract with Coke.
But nothing of that sort happened. And in in any which was, a
single ad cannot make a difference to anyone's career.
Assuming the contrary would just amount to giving too much
importance to it.. Come to think of it, maybe Hrithik got
angry because the model wear braces. The fact is that Hrithik
used to wear braces when he was young. Ironically we got to
know that only after the whole controversy. Also a big hue and
cry was made about us supposedly making fun of Rakesh Roshan,
with a small portion being shot with his look alike. But that
bit was never meant to be on air."
"The thing about Shahrukh is that he
trusts his director completely. I guess that exactly what
happened during the making of the controversial Pepsi ad. He
simply followed my instructions. Unfortunately, he received
all the flak. I even apologized him for that. But I blame the
media for what happened." says Prahlad Kakkar, director
of the controversial Pepsi Ad.
And then there was this award function where
Shahrukh Khan's emotions were captured of video at various
intervals. When it was put together, it implied that Shahrukh
Khan was frowning when Hrithik Roshan was getting the award.
In the end there is a cold war between
Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. But this cold war's
boundaries are confined to the minds of media persons and
fans. In reality Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan are just two
fine actors, doing their job. Shahrukh knows Hrithik from his
childhood. Hrithik himself agrees that he doesn't deserve all
the extra importance that he is getting. He cannot be compared
with Shahrukh Khan.
What we hope is that after Kabhi Kushi Kabhi
Gham (which stars both Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan) fans
stop comparing the two actors.
